Extinguishing a Flame
Pouring

These students observed the bags from their yeast experiment today.  They discovered that the bags had inflated with a gas.  They used what they had learned about the carbon dioxide-oxygen cycle to hypothesize if the bags were filled with oxygen or carbon dioxide.  Then, they used what they had learned about the properties of oxygen and carbon dioxide to identify the gas in the bag.    (Note: The children did not handle the matches or directly engage in activities that involved fire.  And we discussed the dangers of introducing a flame to any truly unknown substance.)
