Maps in the Room |
These students are learning about the
cardinal and intermediate directions.
Some pictures show them adding
compass roses to their pumpkin globes, and then trying to determine how well
the compass roses work on their globes. The compass roses work well at
the equator, but when the students moved their compass roses to the south
poles of their pumpkin globes all the arrows pointed north. We
extended this lesson by using Google Earth to view the earth's north and
south poles.
Other pictures show them
trying to identify directions on make-believe maps. On some of these
maps, they created challenges for their partners. |
