These students are measuring temperatures with Celsius scale thermometers.  They are learning about the boiling and freezing points of water.  And they are measuring temperatures below zero by adding salt to ice water.  After these initial observations, they used what they learned about Celsius scale to make some predictions, such as the temperature of the outside air.
