     These students used their measuring skills and extended what they learned from a previous experiment to construct their "telephones".
     They used string as their transmitting material (a soft material), but they compared the phones they made with another phone that was made with iron wire (a hard material).
     They measured 3,000 millimeters (3 meters) of string and attached it to the cups to make their telephones.
